A Champion Beyond the Ring: Joe Gallagher Honoured with British Citizen Award

Morson sponsored boxing legend and community champion Joe Gallagher has been honoured with the prestigious British Citizen Award for Services to Recreation and Sport (BCAr) in a moving local ceremony at Mulino Restaurant.

The event was proudly sponsored by local property law firm JP Goldman, who, in collaboration with Mulino Restaurant, sought to host a meaningful local celebration befitting the remarkable contributions of Joe Gallagher to the community. The medal and certificate were presented by Mrs Diane Hawkins, Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, His Majesty The King’s representative in the region. The event was hosted by Wayne Devlin BCAa, Ambassador for The British Citizen Awards, who guided a gathering of family, friends, dignitaries and community leaders through an afternoon of recognition and celebration.

Joe, unable to attend the official ceremony at the Palace of Westminster on 24 July 2025 due to hospitalisation, was met with a standing ovation as he finally received his honour. Emotional tributes highlighted his extraordinary influence—not only as a trainer of world champions and founder of the awardwinning Joe Gallagher Academy, but also as a mentor and role model who has transformed the lives of countless young people across Greater Manchester.

Over three decades, Joe has overseen more than 450 professional bouts and nearly 150 title fights, creating opportunities for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. His Academy continues to provide education and boxing training for 16–18-year-olds, ensuring his legacy extends far beyond the ring.

Reflecting on the award, Joe said: “This medal isn’t just for me, it’s for everyone who has walked through the doors of the gym and believed in themselves. Seeing young people grow in confidence and character has always been the greatest reward. I am very grateful for this honour and would like to thank the BCA and all my family and friends for their support and recognition.” The afternoon was filled with laughter, applause and heartfelt stories, capturing the essence of Joe’s lifelong service: dedication, humility and an unwavering commitment to helping others succeed.
