FCAW Welder

Morson Edge are looking for Class 1 Flux Core Welders to join our team at Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth.
This is a great opportunity to work on exciting submarine engineering projects.

What you’ll need:

• Strong capability in Flux Core welding on heavy plate, structural steel, or marine-grade materials
• Experience working in shipbuilding, ship repair, infrastructure, or large-scale construction environments
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical instructions
• Confident use of welding sets, fabrication tools, and general workshop equipment
• Marine engineering background or experience on Royal Navy or commercial vessels - Desirable
• Time-served trade apprenticeship in welding, fabrication, marine, or naval engineering - Desirable
• Indentured Apprenticeship relevant to welding - Desirable
• Level 3 Engineering or Modern Apprenticeship - Desirable
• Level 2 Engineering qualification supported by significant practical experience - Desirable

What you’ll do:

• Apply Flux Core welding to a variety of heavy‑duty marine and structural components
• Butt Welds 25mm/Fillet Welds 12mm
• Work on submarines, surface ships, dockside infrastructure, and controlled factory environments
• Operate welding and some fabrication equipment to consistently high standards
• Read and interpret complex engineering drawings from a welding perspective, procedures, and technical specifications
• Work closely with multi‑disciplinary engineering teams to meet tight safety and performance targets

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role (UK Nationals)

Weld Test

• Butt welds 25mm plate (x2) welded from both sides which covers four different welding positions
• Fillet welds 12mm plate (x2) Vertical and overhead positions

IR35: Inside
Duration: Long Term

Standard pay:

PAYE

• Pre 12 weeks - Standard £27.64/hour - Backshift £34.55/hour 
• Post 12 Weeks - Standard £27.64/hour - Backshift £32.62/hour 

Umbrella

• Pre 12 weeks - Standard £35.24/hour - Backshift £44.14/hour
• Post 12 weeks - Standard £36.02/hour - Backshift £42.58/hour

Shift and additional hours available

Travel allowance paid for candidates who live more than 35 miles from the site.
